On this page you will not only discover what I believe to be the best hot tub vacuum cleaner on the market, but also my special process for keeping your hot tub cleaner for longer, meaning you do not need to change the water as frequently as you currently do!
I have had a hot tub since 2014, so I am always on the look out for the latest gadget. This is the best hot tub vacuum cleaner that I have found by a country mile, yet the name of it and it’s description may baffle you!
My First Hot Tub Vacuum Cleaner
My first hot tub vacuum cleaner was the one that I expect most people own. It has an inbuilt filter and, using a pump action, you pull up dirt off the bottom of the hot tub floor by pulling the handle up, then, as you push the handle down, it filters the dirt (keeping it in the hot tub vacuum), then pumps back out the clean water.
The problem with this system is two fold:
- It is a slow and very manual vacuum cleaning process; and
- When the water gets pumped back into the hot tub it disturbs the dirt which is still on the floor, thereby meaning that you cannot completely clean the hot tub, which is the whole purpose of a hot tub vacuum clearner.
It works to a point, but having had one for five years it just became too annoying to use any longer.
I decided that there had to be a better option, so I went searching for it, but not by putting “Hot tub vacuum cleaner” into a search engine. I realised that was only going to get me what I already had….
What Did I Need From My Hot Tub Vacuum Cleaner?
I started to consider what I really wanted from my hot tub vacuum cleaner.
You wouldn’t think that is hard, would you?
Surely I just wanted it to clean the bottom of my hot tub?
Yes, but also a big no.
I wanted it to do a lot more than that too.
I considered when else I had cleaned the bottom of dirty water, and remembered when we had the house with the fish tank built into the wall between the lounge and the dining room.
I had had one or two fish before as a young boy, but when I moved into that house with a huge tank built into the wall, I had to get some more fish!
The trouble with that tank was that it was built into the wall at eye level, and to clean it you had to go around to the other side of it, stand on a chair (health and safety police would not be happy) and lift a heavy wooden flap. It was a tortuous process.
Therefore, I did a lot of research about how I could clean my fish tank less than the average person needed to do so. The less I could clean that fish tank the better.
It turns out that the way to do this is not to completely change the water every month or so, but to drain a third of it out of the tank and refill it regularly. By doing that I could change the water fully far less frequently.
Wait a minute, I thought, if that system applied to a body of water in my fish tank, why couldn’t it also apply to the larger body of water in my hot tub?
After all, isn’t one of the biggest problems of being a hot tub owner having to drain the hot tub fully every three months (which takes forever) and then fill it fully (which takes even blooming longer and requires constant checking to ensure you are not flooding your garden)?
Then, once you have done that, you have to wait hours and hours for it to get up to the perfect temperature (38.5 degrees for us in case you were interested).
Well, I have some good news for you.
The system I used in my fish tank works equally well for hot tubs.
You can change your hot tub water less if you drain 20-30% of it off every few weeks, just when you feel it is getting murkier, and it will come back to clean and fresh – Game Changer!
It takes far less time than emptying and refilling the entire hot tub, keeps the water nice and clean AND, most importantly, considering the title of this article, removes all of the dirt from the bottom of the hot tub at the same time!
So, let me move on to what I consider to be the best hot tub vacuum cleaner.
The Best Hot Tub Vacuum Cleaner
This is the best hot tub vacuum cleaner, and that is not it’s intended purpose. Just like the man who invented post it notes by mistake, by trying to make a really sticky glue but discovering it allowed pieces of paper to be attached to something and then just as easily removed, the people at hygger thought they had created a fish tank cleaner, but actually they have created the perfect and best hot tub vacuum cleaner.
To use it you simply attach the two wide clear pieces of pipe, which easily reach the bottom of the hot tub, then add the vacuum cleaning nozzle.
At the other end of the gun mechanism, you add the draining hose. Put the vacuum nozzle in the bottom of the hot tub, press the trigger on the handle 5 or 6 times and the water starts draining away smoothly and easily.
Once you have got the syphon working, you can move it all around the bottom of the hot tub cleaning up whatever that stuff all is (best not thinking about that) and then let the vacuum cleaner drain out as much water as you like to take care of your partial water change. Or, if you are just using it to clean the bottom, once you have done that (about 3 minutes maximum), pull the vacuum cleaner out of the water and the draining stops. Top up or not depending on the water level of your hot tub before.
So, there you have it.
It turns out that the best hot tub vacuum cleaner is in fact an aquarium cleaner.
